Aboshi Nishi Elementary School

To see the river, the town, the port, and the warmth
of the town people
Principal of Aboshi Nishi Elementary
School : Midori Yanagiuchi
Aboshi Nishi Elementary School is located in the
southwesternmost part of Himeji City. If we cross the Nakagawa, the stream
to the Ibo River, we come to the town of Mitsucho. Though our beautiful
town still looks as it used to, it is famous for its lumber port and high-tech
industries now. Our students are called "Hamakko", because the
school is near the sea. They run around the large playground early in the
morning, and from the music room we can hear the school's brass band playing
happily and lightheartedly.
The students also grow many flowers in all four seasons and we, teachers hope the children grow to be gentle and yet strong. The totem pole that honors the sistercity of Himeji, and the stone statue of "Great Friends Hamakko" can be seen in the schoolyard.
Now our goal is to create life-long learners of our students and give them enthusiasm for and interest in, future education. I am very glad to know that the students can study through the interest and join the "Multi Media School" which introduces the good points of our school and this area. I hope the students have learned more about our town and are more appreciative because of this experience. Perhaps by walking these streets themselves, they have seen their home through new eyes.
