The monument of the Late Mr.Inoue's merit

The monument is located in the eastern end of Mt.Handa. Mr.Inoue's full name is Yahei Inoue. The prefectural highway near Machiya town along Ibo River was a narrow and dangerous road because the cliff of Mt.Handa was close to Ibo River until the beginning of Meiji Era. Many people and horses dropped into the river, so they feared this road as a devilish area. Mr.Inoue was a man who cleared the cliff and extended the road. He started the work in 1878 and finished in 1880.
