The message from the teachers

Toru Kamiya & Akihisa Tabuchi

For the main subjects of our home-page of Honda Elementary School, we took up the Somen factory and the Hayashida River as the most familiar things to us in our hometown.
There are some Somen (Japanese fine noodles) factories in our school district, and we visited the nearest one for study.
The factory is well known to the kids watching the noodles being dried in the sun on their way to and from school.
But they never saw the early-morning work in the factory, so the kids and I visited there early in the morning for making our home-page, and took photos of all the processes of the manufacture with a digital camera.
We, though some kids were sleepy-eyed, could see and learn well those works in the factory.
The Hayashida River running in the east of our school is the branch from the Ibo River.
Till some years ago, it was a water-polluted river listed as the worst five river in Japan. But after the recent conservation and sewerage works,it became a clean river with "ayu"(river fish) swimming.
The riverside area is a nice playground for the kids, and you can see colza flowers all around there in spring. This time we observed the river from the upper stream through the lower, not only for making the home-page but also as the study of science.
The kids seemed to learn how the nature is wonderful and precious, too. So we'd like to show this revived Hayashida River to everyone on the internet.
We also hope to have the cultural exchange some day, talking about how to keep clean rivers, with other elementary schools all over Japan.
